HomeTown – 05 – Growing Up

HomeTown - 05 - Satok
If you think this looks weird you aren’t wrong, it’s a combination of camera shake and double exposure.

I’m one of the lucky ones, I have only had to move houses once in my entire life. That move happened three years ago when I got married. Most of my life was spent here, on this street in the same house from the moment I was born to the moment I moved out. I liked this street, it was quiet, it was friendly, and there were lots of families with kids near my age. There were trails that connected to parks that one could ride bikes on or just walk along. I could walk to all the schools I attended. And importantly it was safe. Adventures were had along the street, I got my first taste of garage sales from the ones around the corner. This was home for many years. And while I no longer live here, I do get to visit often as my parents still live here. Which is why you have a picture of the street, not a specific house. Okay, first off I apologize for the strange image and if it gave you a headache, that was never my intention. You see, I shot this image during a colder than I expected morning and the shutter on the Fujinon lens doesn’t like the cold too much especially at the slower speeds. The strange effect you see is part camera shake, part double-exposure. As I tried to correct the error by opening the camera for a short time but had also bumped the camera just a bit over. Not my best work, but hey, large format keeps you humble.
