Paparazzi, Paparazzi…the taunts seemed almost to be sung as I grabbed a shot of two women walking across the street. They don’t bother me, besides I’m far from a paparazzi photographer, these two women are not famous nor am I going to be selling these photos. Besides I can barely hear the voices over the History Extra Podcast about Richard I and the Third Crusade. Having just come from a beautiful photowalk in the High Park Area I had some time to kill before meeting up with my buddy James at Trinity-Bellwood Park to head up to the Dakota Tavern to catch the Silver HeartsRead More →

While many continued to use and love the all mechanical Nikon F2 the F3 was a departure of sorts for Nikon moving towards an electronic-based camera and a very stylish one at that. Designed by the noted industrial designer Giorgetto Giugiaro who introduced the red strip that still appears on Nikon SLRs today. This is the camera that got me back into semi-automatic manual focus photography after I received it as a gift from a photojournalist with a vast collection of lenses and the MD-4 motor drive. While heavily used, this camera has seen a lot of action in the past and continues to seeRead More →

The Canon EOS-1N was the second iteration of Canon’s flagship autofocus 35mm professional SLR. Replacing the earlier EOS-1 the 1N improved some of the focusing issues. While a second model the 1N RS was again an improvement the 1N continued to serve in many professional’s camera arsenal. I don’t use many Canon cameras, I’m much more of a Nikon guy, but I always love exploring new systems and cameras so when I was offered a chance to use this fine machine I was more than happy to swap my F4 for the EOS-1N for a photowalk! Back in April at the FPP Walking Workshop I had the chance to work with some studio lights. One of the things to come out of the first round with the studio light was the Polaroid Portraits that I was very proud of. But on the Sunday before the Large Format workshop kicked off I again hooked up one of my cameras to the same light and with the help of Professor Jeff got all the settings landed and began to pull people who were in attendance into my studio for a quick shot. Loaded into my camera was a single roll of Kodak PortraRead More →

We don’t want to take your photo We want to give it to you. I was really looking forward to participating in Help-Portrait again, and to make things for 2011 more awesome we were running two events in Milton for the year. There were actually two last year but the groups remained seperate, so to increase the number of volunteers the two groups combined to make one awesome group. The first event was lead by George (who ran last year’s second group), at Milton Bible Church, and what a day it was, we were pretty much go-go-go from seven thirty in the morning until fiveRead More →

September 10th dawned bright and clear, not too cold either. I found myself out in Clarrington, ON at the beautiful 4 Season’s Golf & Country club to photograph Sarah & Derrick’s Wedding, a couple I had photographed for their engagement photos last year. The back drop was beautiful, the sky a deep blue, the greens bright with life, the fall colours not yet starting to come in. It was such a day that I wish I had access to Kodachrome to shoot, and the colour processing to match. Sarah & Derrick were a wonderful couple to work with, both naturals in front of the camerasRead More →

This past Saturday myself and fellow photographer Eric brought the model Melynda out to Georgetown’s abandoned Barber Mill. A location I’m rather familiar with having explored it on several occasions already. I’m rather pleased with the results, turning out some of my best model work to date (it can only go up from here, right?).
