I had a Holga several years ago, and it ended up breaking and not in a right way. These cameras aren&#8217;t made to last, plastic, fantastic, and produces a unique image. It&#8217;s not everyone&#8217;s cup of tea, but for me, the Holga holds a special spot on my camera shelf.<\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/axle81401\/36129568015\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" title=\"Holga Week 2017\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4329\/36129568015_2ab0b0fe8c_b.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" alt=\"Holga Week 2017\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/axle81401\/36129567375\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" title=\"Holga Week 2017\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4311\/36129567375_b26ecfed5b_b.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" alt=\"Holga Week 2017\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>For several years I rocked the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alexluyckx.com\/blog\/index.php\/2015\/11\/09\/ccr-review-25-fpp-debonair\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FPP Plastic Filmtastic Debonair<\/a>, a solid performer for sure, a cross between a Holga and a Diana. But the one issue I had with it is not that it&#8217;s a 6&#215;4.5 camera, it&#8217;s a fact the film aligned in a portrait orientation, not my usual landscape. I am in the process of modifying it to be a landscape Debonair.<\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/axle81401\/36129567085\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" title=\"Holga Week 2017\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4301\/36129567085_83ca0a875d_b.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" alt=\"Holga Week 2017\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/axle81401\/36129566735\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" title=\"Holga Week 2017\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4323\/36129566735_172eb6a92f_b.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" alt=\"Holga Week 2017\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>And then there was the scare that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freestylephoto.biz\/holga-ceases-operations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Holga was gone<\/a>, done, the factory that produced these iconic cameras closed. That was 2015, but 2017 is a year of comebacks! Film Ferrania brought back a classic film, P30, Kodak is bringing back Ektachrome. So why not Holga? An excellent question and one that people asked and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thephoblographer.com\/2017\/03\/16\/good-news-holga-camera-coming-back\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the given answer, yes<\/a>. There had been news that the original manufacturer destroyed the original molds, and I&#8217;m sure a great many were, but not all of them. Another factory found one, for the iconic medium format, 6&#215;6 120N.<\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/axle81401\/35959459362\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" title=\"Holga Week 2017\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4298\/35959459362_afb46b72d7_b.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" alt=\"Holga Week 2017\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/axle81401\/35959456952\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" title=\"Holga Week 2017\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4315\/35959456952_7bcb1f7052_b.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" alt=\"Holga Week 2017\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Soon, I had one in my hands. Heading over to the <a href=\"http:\/\/holgaweek.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Holga Week website<\/a> and to my joy I wasn&#8217;t late for this year&#8217;s Holga Week and took it with to a classic car night in downtown Milton loaded up with a roll of Kodak Plus-X Pan. Because why not use a roll of expired film and just have some fun. Despite having a range of quality cameras at my fingertips, sometimes it&#8217;s just fun to let loose and run with it. Of course, the best tip I ever got with shooting toy cameras is actually from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lomography.com\/about\/the-ten-golden-rules\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lomographic Society<\/a>. And while some might deride the folks at Lomography, I think they have it right with these rules, especially number 10. Don&#8217;t follow the rules and don&#8217;t worry. Of course, I can&#8217;t always go out and shoot like this if I&#8217;m doing a paid gig.
