Giving Kodak a little love for week 12. Yes, despite what you have (or haven’t heard) Kodak is alive and kicking and still producing film (marketing it under the Kodak Alaris name). So when I had a chance to go visit Rochester I decided to give some exposure to the company’s iconic headquarters. The Kodak Tower, set a bit outside the main downtown area of Rochester, NY was built between 1912 and 1914 as the ‘nerve center of photography.’ Under the watchful eye of George Eastman, the firm of Gordon & Kaelber (Main famous Rochester buildings were designed by them and listed on the National Register) in the French Renaissance style. Standing at 19 storeys the Kodak Tower is the 4th tallest building in Rochester. Rather than focus directly on the tower itself, I wanted to make the tower the main focus, but set it within its environment by shooting it across the Genesee River from near the Genesee Brewhouse (worth a stop). Although still the headquarters of Eastman Kodak the tower these days is mostly used for storage.
This is also the first (of many) guest cameras in the project, this week’s camera and lens was loaned for both Weeks 12 and 13 by Andrew Hiltz, a 1916 Kodak Pony Premo No. 6 and iconic Kodak Ektar 127mm lens!
