Classic Camera Revival – Episode 219 | Best Before

So, back in December 2025, Alex handed out some expired film to James and Bill, and today we’re back revisiting the topic of expired film. And while Bill & James haven’t had the chance to shoot their rolls, Alex did shoot his odd duck of a roll. Everything from colour shifts to fog and bad chemical packs, it’s all about shooting and using expired film. From developing without any data to best practices, techniques and chemistry needed.

  1. I probably have about 450 rolls of expired film left now. Plus-X, Panatomic-X, Verichrome Pan, Kodacolor, Vericolor, APX 25, APX 100, Vista, Ilford Pan F, Fuji Acros, Velvia, Provia, Superia in 35mm, 120, and some in 220. B&W in speeds 100 and below and all work fine even at 30+ years. Jim Grey can attest. Color also has worked well other than a tad grainy for some. Only two colors rolls came back with one green and the other magenta. I think the lab messed up. Most all this film bought between 1999-2003 and immediately frozen.

That is an amazing collection of expired film! Especially jealous of the Plus-X, Panatomic-X and APX 25!
